ARE YOU NEW TO THE ROO CREW?
The Roo Crew is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in the Spring of 2020 to support families in Spartanburg County who have children with special medical and educational needs. Our Board of Directors and Advisory Council are comprised of local practitioners and parents who are passionate about assisting and advocating for children with differing abilities.
Just as our area schools develop Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) for students with special needs, the Roo Crew takes an individualized approach to our work with children and their families. Our motto is “helping families leap obstacles.” You can read more about our L.E.A.P. Method (Listen, Educate, Advocate, Prepare) below:
Although our work varies from family to family, some of our regular support includes:
– Participating in IEP and 504-plan meetings with families.
– Advocating for and supporting Special Educators in our community.
– Helping families connect with local specialists related to their child’s educational and medical diagnoses.
– Matching children with tutors trained in their child’s particular learning needs.
Perhaps the most significant part of our work is our long-term commitment to families. While some nonprofits necessarily focus on acute and short-term solutions, we develop ongoing partnerships with children and their families. Everyone has a story, and everyone needs a crew. This is especially true for families with children who have special educational and medical obstacles, and we are so happy we can be part of their ongoing support system.
The Rock ‘N’ Roo & Art Auction is our annual fundraiser that enables us to continue this important work in Spartanburg County. We’re grateful for your support and would love to connect with you if you’d like to know more about our story and mission.
